In the early days of PLCs, controllers were only powerful enough to process inputs, apply logic and then activate outputs. A by-product of such control tasks is the production of data. Honeywell's approach to the analysis of such data was the Communications Omni Processor or IPC627 COP.

COP is an industrial microcomputer which acts as an interactive link between the PLC and the operator and is either connected via a serial link or, in the case of MiniCOP, integrated into the PLC I/O rack.

Although now largely replaced by more modern SCADA systems such as Wonderware Intouch, Honeywell MiniCOP is still supported by Applied Automation.
